Bring the autumn inside

Temperatures are dropping and the weather is beginning to change, cool crisp mornings or damp afternoons are becoming a little more obvious each and every day and the daylight is fading earlier. Clear signs that the season is changing. Now is the perfect time to embrace the start of autumn and immerse yourself in the wonders of this unique time of year.

Preparing your home for the cooler weather by dusting and bleeding radiators, adjusting thermostats and changing window dressing to a more thermal efficient design will all help to cosy up your home and make the most of your double glazing, but how about adding a little touch of that autumn magic inside so the joy of the season can be enjoyed after the curtains are drawn and the fire is lit.

Spending quality time with loved ones is good for wellbeing and what could be more refreshing than a relaxing walk together to observe and soak up the changes of the season. The colours that pop from the fawner, dazzling oranges, yellows, ruby reds and chestnut browns are all comforting and warming colours that would work well inside your home. Think about adding the essence and warmth of these colours through accessories such as textured cushions, throws and rugs. Not only will these appear warming they will also add that extra element of cosiness when you snuggle up after your walk.

While out and about collect fallen leaves, twigs and conkers to create an autumnal display in your living space. You could create a welcoming window display or a focal point on a coffee table or fireplace. Add in miniature battery operated lights, rosy red apples or even a miniature pumpkin to embrace produce of the season alongside your leaves, conkers and twigs.

Young children will love creating leaf prints using dried leaves and paint and these make lovely autumnal artwork to share with family and friends. Turn them into cards and you will have some super unique birthday and thank you cards ready to use. Teaching young ones about the different types of leaves you have collected and shining up conkers and acorns will not only be relaxing but it may also bring back memories from your own childhood to share.

Observing the season and all its changes is a great way to slow down and let your mind rest for a while. Life is busy and often we miss the changes that are happening all around us in nature. It is the simple things in life and sharing time with loved ones in a warm, cosy environment that often bring us the most pleasure. A walk in nature, a cup of tea by a warming fire and a display of autumnal joy costs very little but the wealth of happiness that this could bring to a cold, damp weekend is priceless.
